Winter Is Over, Right?
I look out the window and what do I see? Not popcorn popping on the apricot tree, but snow. SNOW! Winter is over, isn’t it? Well, apparently the weather didn’t get the memo. On the subject of winter, though, have you got rid of the winter funk yet? Well, here’s three things you should do, if you haven’t done them already.
3 Things To Do to Get Over The Winter Funk
1. Clean Your Carpets
Cleaning carpets is the bread and butter of Alpine Cleaning and Restoration. We do lots of other things, but carpet cleaning was where it all started and for some people, it’s still the thing we’re most known for. If you’re looking to get rid of the winter funk, the first thing to do is clean your carpets.
As we said in a previous article, winter is especially hard on carpets. With the higher foot traffic from spending more time indoors, all the excess moisture being tracked in on your shoes, and the chemicals and salts they use on the roads, your carpets get really gunky. All that gunk not only ruins your carpet, it feels icky (to use the technical term). Cleaning your carpets will help your carpet last long, and it also clears out allergens that might make you miserable. It’s just a good idea to do it.
2. Grease Build-Up On Ovens
When it’s snowing and cold, you’re not exactly inclined to go out and cook steaks on the grill. Steak is delicious, but frostbite sucks and it’s hard to cook while you’re wearing gloves. Maybe someone out there does it, but if you’re like most people, you cook indoors during the winter.
You know what happens when you use your oven a lot? Grease build-up. Splatters from boiling sauces and crackling fat get all over. On the top of the counter, inside the oven, even on the ceiling sometimes. It is, to be technical again, icky! Cleaning it off will make your kitchen feel a lot better. That’s not our department, but you can easily do it yourself. Here are some simple tips! Or, if you don’t have the time to do it yourself, or just have a lot of general house cleaning chores that you need to get on top of, one of our partners, can help you out.
3. Clean Out Your Air Ducts
Your air ducts help with ventilation. They circulate air throughout your house, as well helping heat it up. Like all things, air vents gather dust. That dust can get blown into the air. That can play havoc on allergies. Even if you’re not allergic, dust in the air is just unpleasant. Cleaning your air ducts can help you make sure that you’ve got fresh air to breathe. That’ll help drive away that winter funk!
Dirty air ducts are also a fire hazard. Dust is composed of many things, but it’s primary make-up is dead skin cells, lint, hair, and floating particles. All these are flammable. If you wake up to another day like today, where there’s been a sharp temperature drop (snow or no snow), you’ll want to turn on the heater. If you’ve let dust build up in your vents, the hot air can cause the dust to catch fire. Clogged vents can also cause motors and fans to overheat. We see a lot of fires with Alpine and vents are one of the more common causes.
Fortunately, we have a new partner in our Cache Valley local business circle: Easy Breezy Ducts. We can fix you up nice and easy if your house catches fire, but it’s always better to avoid that altogether. Easy Breezy Ducts can help you clean your vents. Clean up the fire hazard and make sure you have nice fresh air. With how Covid-19 has us all stuck inside more, we need all the fresh air we can get!
